Chapter 10: Happiness

Happiness is relative. It is based on someone's own perception; someone's values and principles. Happiness can be sorrow for others or despair or anger. Happiness is an emotion and a result of a pleasure and desire that is achieve by oneself.

But are all happiness genuine? Are we gonna be happy if we settle for less than what we deserve?

A friend got into a relationship. Both of them were happy. They talked over the phone for hours and for once my friend told me that he planned his futute with her.

She was overwhelmn. It was the first time someone proposed a future with her. She thought it was different.

It turns out to be true. It is different. Different from what she imagine. Different. Just entirely different.

The problem with the girl is that she know how she should be treated. She demanded. She demanded what she deserve. She argued and fight for it.

For some reason, the battle was ignored. She didn't know what happen. All she wanted was consistency even if both of them were away.

It didn't happen.

Was she happy? Yes. What is the price? Self worth sacrifice.

He loved her. I guess. Her stories when they are together suggests that he care. WHEN THEY ARE TOGETHER.

But she felt like their relationship is like a switch. It is ON when their hands are together and OFF when hugs become virtual.

She kept on thinking what was wrong. Did she demanded too much?

He was busy she said. She insisted herself even for a minute. Declined.

Is it her fault that at the end of the day all she wanted was to talk to him and listen to his story.

Was she happy being in that kind of relationship? No. She felt lonlier than when she is alone.
The problem with happiness is that it depends on someone's perception.

Some people felt happy hearing 'i love you' others want more than words.

I remember she told me that the guy said "trust me blindly." She did. In all her actions, she did. She became selfless. She herself ignored her own needs while thinking what is best for him.

She once told me she will meet his mother. I saw the spark in her eyes. I saw how the smile didn't fade until she finished her story. Did it happen? Like most of his words and promises. No.

Why? Circumstances. Coincidence.

He promised a ring. She was thrilled and excited. Where is it? He took his words back.

Why? He needed it more than he wants to show his 'love' I guess.

"I will call you later" he said. Did he? Ofcourse. NOT.

And with the compilation of all little disappointments, she had enough.

She cared more than what is required. Result? She was taken for granted.

I guess he knew she will always be there for him. ALWAYS. But I just wonder. Who was there for her?

It is true. My friend has always been that independent girl. She can take care of herself. She didn't need him to be honest. But then I think, she hopes.

But then again, like her other stories end. It failed.
